It has been the first and most important medical institution in Europe in the medieval times. We have learnt the story of this school which used a lot of herbs to treat illnesses. We can find many of these herbs in the Minerva Gardens. 85 WORKSHOP 6 – Visit to the Museo provincial Salerno 2nd November 2016 On 2nd November 2016, we visited the Provincial Museum of Salerno with our teachers. It is situated in the ancient monastery of San Benedetto. You can see lots of ancient archeological evidences which come from the area of Fratte, the first housing unit of Salerno. 86 The following images represent the fight between Heracles and the Nemean lion. In particular there are lots of vases and funeral stocks (vases, jewels etc.) coming from the tombs discovered in the archaeological sites of Roscigno and Fratte. It has been a really interesting experience for us! 87 WORKSHOP 7 – Handcrafts 88 WORKSHOP 8 – Christmas at the San Tommaso d’Aquino school 20th December 2016 Today we are all busy with the preparation of the Christmas decorations of our school. We are making Christmas balls, paper ribbons to decorate the school: a star, a promise in a Christmas card, a crib and here it is CHRISTMAS! 89 WORKSHOP 9 – Visit to Paestum 18th May 2017 Last 18th May we visited Paestum archaeological site. Paestum is situated on the Tyrrhenian coast, on the south of Salerno. The oldest traces of human settlement date back to the Palaeolithic Period. Around 600 BC the Greeks from Sybaris founded a city. The temples are dedicated to Athena and Hera that are still well preserved. During the visit we have also assisted to a dramatization performed on the Athena temple. We have also visited the museum with lots of interesting ancient finds. 90 The most important one is the "TUFFATORE" tomb that was of a Greek diver, t's the biggest evidence of Greek painting. It is realized by using the fresco technique. 91 WORKSHOP 12 – Singing May 2016 In this workshop we are learning the Italian version of the Auld lang syne (Valzer delle candele), the song chosen by all partners as a Farewell song of our project. We have learnt it also in English. We have also learnt an Italian song 'Volare', famous all over the world and become a symbol of our country, we would like to sing it with our friends in the next mobility. Friends of the world We have written this song thinking about the experience we are having, it talks about the happiness we are feeling meeting students from other countries and sharing this project activities with them. All together in this place To have a wonderful Stay We are students, We like school And we’re happy To stay with you Beautiful days Run fast away but we’ll meet You again Thanks for all Friends of the world This song is just for you All. 92 WORKSHOP 11 – Meeting a survivor of the Dachau concentration camp 27th January 2017 On 27th January, on the occasion of the Holocaust Memorial Day, we have guested in our school a special person. His name is Antonio Iacuzzo, he is a survivor of the Dachau concentration camp. Antonio is a sculptor, he has created lots of beautiful wooden sculptures.
